Holiday Travelers Can Donate To Climate Savers Computing Through Google’s Free Wi-Fi Service in Airports
(PORTLAND, Ore.)—Climate Savers Computing Initiative is featured in Google’s Free Holiday Wi-Fi program that provides holiday travelers with the gift of free Wi-Fi in 47 of the nation’s airports through January 15, 2010. Once logged on to the networks in any of the participating airports, travelers can pass on the spirit of the season by making a donation to nonprofit Climate Savers Computing Initiative, which Google will match up to $250,000.
“We encourage all air travelers to use the free Wi-Fi access to learn more about Climate Savers Computing, and to download one of our free PC Power Management tools,” said Lorie Wigle, president of Climate Savers Computing, an international nonprofit committed to reducing IT-related energy consumption. “You’ll immediately reduce the carbon footprint of your computer, and if you make a donation, you will help us bring power management to more people, reducing their carbon footprint too.”
By making a donation and pledging support to Climate Savers Computing, travelers will be joining the organization’s efforts to move toward a clean, sustainable economy through energy-efficient computing. For example, funds will help the organization’s Power Down for the Planet program deliver tools for reducing energy consumption to college and university students while educating the next generation of green IT leaders.
Climate Savers Computing also works in partnership with a number of global environmental leaders to accelerate the adoption of energy-saving technologies and practices, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program, the World Wildlife Fund and other influential organizations around the world.
More information about the free Wi-Fi networks, including a full list of participating airports, is available at www.freeholidaywifi.com.
