CSCI Certification

To qualify products as Climate Savers Computing certified, and list eligible products in the Climate Savers Computing Product Catalog, products must be compliant with the Initiative’s specifications. System and component manufacturers are required to perform tests and certify their Power Supply Units (PSUs) per Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) power supply efficiency protocol, the Generalized Internal Power Supply Efficiency Test Protocol R6.4.2. System and component manufacturers are required to perform tests and certify their systems per ENERGY STAR’s guidelines and procedures. A third party firm may be used for certification provided the EPRI power supply efficiency protocol and/or ENERGY STAR guidelines and procedures are followed. Prior to claiming product certification, Members must provide the Initiative with documentation to verify that Member’s products are in compliance with the Program Criteria. Product documentation will include power factor and efficiency data. At this time certified product packaging logos are not available, but are under consideration by CSCI. If you are interested in the use of packaging logos, please contact CSCI Administration.

To ensure compliance with Member’s obligations, the Initiative may, upon reasonable notice to a Member, review and inspect any products to be manufactured and sold by the Member. The Member shall cooperate fully in providing the Initiative access to or assisting the Initiative in gaining access to the Member’s products and compliance documents and materials. Further, the Initiative may perform spot audits of Member products in the marketplace that claim compliance with the Initiative’s specifications. The Initiative will provide notice to Members whose products do not pass review and inspection, or spot market audits, and allow them reasonable time to appeal or remedy any non-compliance.

Qualifying computers must meet the ENERGY STAR 4.0 specification for desktops, laptops and workstation computers through June 30, 2009 and the ENERGY STAR 5.0 specification beginning July 1, 2009. Qualifying servers must meet the ENERGY STAR 1.0 for servers. Qualifying computers and servers must also have power supply units that meet the efficiency and power factor specifications listed below for the respective multi-output or single output power supply units. Qualifying power supply units must meet these same efficiency and power factor specifications.

**Redundant capable PSU typically refers to a power supply that is capable of operating in parallel to provide redundant power to a system (1U/2U single, dual, four-socket and blade servers).

The metrics for lower power single-output PSUs (PSU using less than 500 watts) are being re-evaluated; however, today they are included under the present specifications.
