This week, we wrapped up CSCI’s Earth Hour Twitter Giveaway by announcing the winners of four great prizes donated by Google, Microsoft and Sony. The giveaway resulted in a big uptick in our visibility on Twitter and a surge of new power management pledges.
I want to thank everyone for your incredible support throughout the giveaway and for helping communicate the virtues of power management to your networks. It’s another step in broadening mindshare for Climate Savers Computing Initiative’s mission. It also helped us achieve some impressive results. Over the course of six days, we gained 555 new power management pledges, 334 new Twitter followers and hundreds of re-tweets and mentions from followers on Twitter.
Special thanks goes to Google, Microsoft and Sony for providing energy efficient products as prizes and to Google, Intel and Broadcom for the extra boost in re-tweets from their corporate Twitter accounts.
The Earth needs more than an hour a year from each of us. Earth Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of sustainability issues, but there is certainly more to it than simply turning off our lights for one hour. It’s about working together to build a better future for our planet. Buying responsibly, using technology to manage power use and raising awareness of such measures every day is the path to the changes we need.
As quoted by Henry Ford, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
Thanks again for the support. Onward.
