CLIMATE SAVERS COMPUTING INITIATIVE 100+ COMPANIES STRONG

Formation of Geo Teams to Expand Participation in
Japan , Europe, China and Taiwan

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, San Francisco, Sept. 18, 2007 – The Climate Savers Computing InitiativeSM today announced that more than 100 companies and organizations have joined since the Initiative launched in June, and the group has formed international subteams to expand its efforts in Japan, Europe, China and Taiwan.

The Climate Savers Computing Initiative is a nonprofit group of eco-conscious consumers, businesses and conservation organizations dedicated to improving the power efficiency and reducing the energy consumption of computers.

The average desktop PC wastes nearly half the power delivered to it. The Initiative’s goal is to achieve a 50 percent reduction in computer power consumption by 2010 by producing and purchasing power-efficient products and increasing the use of power management. According to industry analyst firm Gartner, the total PC power consumption per year for a well-managed 2,500-PC-strong organization is 50 percent lower than for an unmanaged one. 1

The Climate Savers Computing Initiative is led by representatives from nine Board of Director companies: Dell, EDS, Google, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Pacific Gas & Electric and World Wildlife Fund. Sponsor companies, which include AMD, Delta Electronics, eBay, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Marvell Semiconductor, NEC, Sun and Supermicro, also participate in technical, marketing and international workgroups. A complete member list is available at /program/colleagues.html .

Individuals and enterprises interested in the Climate Savers Computing Initiative can pledge their support online or in person this week at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, which will feature a pledge kiosk in the energy efficiency community.
